Dehradun, 21 November (HS). Peaceful by-election was held on Kedarnath assembly seat in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. There are six candidates in the fray for Kedarnath Assembly seat, whose fate has been sealed in EVMs. According to the figures received till late Thursday night, 57.64 percent votes were cast. According to the Election Commission, the voting percentage increased to 58.89 percent on Friday. Out of a total of 90,875 voters, 53,513 exercised their franchise, including 28,345 women and 25,168 men.
Strong room security tight
After the elections, all the polling parties returned safely and the EVM machines were kept in the strong room under tight security. The strong room was sealed under the supervision of Vinod Seshan, General Observer of the Election Commission of India. The three-tier security arrangement includes ITBP, paramilitary forces, local police and monitoring of CCTV cameras.
Preparations for counting of votes completed
District Election Officer Saurabh Gaharwar said that all preparations have been completed for counting of votes on November 23. 14 tables will be set up for counting of votes and personnel have also been deployed.
Vote through postal ballot
Nodal officer Rahul Choubey said that 712 personnel and disabled voters and voters above 85 years of age used postal ballot for voting. So far 284 ETPBS postal ballots have been received.
