Voting in Maharashtra on 20th November, counting on 23rd

Mumbai – The Election Commission of India today announced the dates of Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections. In Maharashtra, voting will be held in a single phase on November 20, while in Jharkhand, voting will be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20. Counting of votes from both the states will be conducted on November 23. Along with these assembly elections, apart from 48 assembly seats in different states, by-elections will also be held on two Lok Sabha seats including Nanded in Maharashtra. The Election Commission has claimed that special steps are being taken to deal with money power and muscle power in the elections of these states. Apart from exit polls, the Election Commission has also banned unofficial trends from being released early on the results day. The election code of conduct has come into force with the announcement of election dates.

Today, in the press conference of the Central Election Commission held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, the dates of Maharashtra Assembly elections and Jharkhand Assembly elections were announced in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. According to the announcement of the Election Commission, voting will be held in Maharashtra on 20th and the results will be declared on 23rd. Whereas in Jharkhand, voting will be held in two phases on 13th and 20th November and the results will be declared on 23rd November.

Voting will be held for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. The last assembly elections in the state were held in October 2019. Assembly elections are going to be held on 81 seats in Jharkhand. The tenure of Jharkhand Assembly is ending on 5 January 2025. The last assembly elections in the state were held in December 2019. 9.63 crore voters will cast their votes in Maharashtra while 2.6 crore voters will cast their votes in Jharkhand.

It was widely expected that Maharashtra assembly elections would be held along with Haryana. However, the Election Commission, for the first time in recent years, has canceled the elections in Haryana and Maharashtra and combined the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand together.

By-election was also announced

By-elections have been announced for 48 assembly and two Lok Sabha seats. Voting will be held for 47 assembly seats of Kerala and Wayanad Lok Sabha on November 13. Voting will be held on November 20 for one assembly of Uttarakhand and Nanded Lok Sabha of Maharashtra. It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi was elected from two seats, Amethi and Wayanad. This seat became vacant due to his resignation from Wayanad seat. Priyanka Gandhi will contest from Wayanad seat and thus will enter parliamentary politics. This seat has become vacant due to the death of the Congress member elected from Nanded seat of Maharashtra.

Forms will be filled before Diwali in Maharashtra

Announcing the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Election Commission said that voting will be held in Maharashtra on 20th November, while the results of the election will be declared on 23rd. The notification will be published next week on 22nd October, the last date for nomination will be 29th October so the form can be filled till then. The screening of nominations will be held on October 30 while the last date for withdrawal of forms will be November 4.

Voting on 81 seats in Jharkhand

In Jharkhand, form filling will start for the first phase on October 18 and for the second phase from October 22. Voting is going to be held on 81 assembly seats in twenty-five districts of the state. Out of these 81 seats, 44 seats are of general category. While 9 seats are reserved for SC and 28 seats for ST category.
