Bettiah, May 25 (HS). People of Gaunah and Mainatad blocks of West Champaran district boycotted the voting. Not a single vote was cast in these two blocks on Saturday. Both the blocks are located in Balmikinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
Voters of booth number 74, Upkramit Madhya Vidyalay Boud Barwa, of Mainatad block of the district, angry over the non-construction of road, did not vote in the Lok Sabha elections. On receiving the information that voters did not vote, Deputy Collector of Land Reforms Chandrashekhar Kumaran, Excise Superintendent Manoj Kumar Singh, BDO Pankaj Kumar, Inspector Sarfaraz Ahmed, Police Station Head Mantu Kumar, Zonal Magistrate and other officials reached there and tried to convince them but the voters did not listen and boycotted the voting completely. However, the polling staff kept waiting for the voters the entire day.
The presiding officer said that out of 974 voters not even one voter came to vote. Angry villagers Mahanand Yadav, Hasnain Miyan, Babulal Prasad, Amresh Kumar, Ravi Ranjan, Krishna Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Rajan Prasad, Jagdish Prasad Yadav, Sanjay Prasad, Sanjay Kumar, Vinod Prasad etc said that after 1995 the nearly one and a half kilometer road from Boud Barwa village towards Bastha has become completely dilapidated due to the neglect of public representatives. Many times we raised our voice to the MP, MLA and the administration but no one took the trouble to build the road.
Due to the dilapidated condition of the road, the people of Boud Barwa face a lot of problems. Especially if someone falls ill and needs to reach Mainatad immediately, then it is a tough job. People keep getting into accidents every day but the public representatives do not pay any attention to building the road.
BDO Pankaj Kumar said that a road is to be built in two kilometers from Boud Barwa to Bastha. The Chief Engineer of the Rural Works Department is also taking action towards the construction of the road. The tender process is ongoing. Only one voter of 85 plus from Boud Barwa village has voted earlier. The remaining 973 voters have not exercised their right to vote.
On the other hand, voters of Ward No. 14 of Santhol village under Mehanul Panchayat of Gaunaha block situated in Valmikinagar Lok Sabha constituency completely boycotted voting at polling booth number 286. Valmiki Mahato, Ramsubhar Mahato, Nitish Kumar, Hewanti Devi, Bhagirathi Devi, Rupwanti Devi, Dharmaraj Mahato, Ramraj Mahato etc. of Santhol village targeted the public representatives and government officials and said that due to their indifference, there is neither a paved road in the village nor a bridge on the canal, due to the absence of a bridge on the canal, a lot of difficulties have to be faced during the rainy season. The village submerges in water during the rainy season. The situation is such that within a decade more than half a dozen people have died by drowning in flood water. On receiving the information of vote boycott, BDO Shivjanm Ram, CO Vivek Kumar Singh, RO Deepak Ram, who reached the said village, tried to convince the people for hours but the villagers did not listen to the officials and remained adamant on boycotting the vote. Till the time of writing the news, not a single vote could be cast at booth number 286.
Whereas in Balmikinagar and half a dozen villages of West Champaran parliamentary constituency, voters in blocks like Makhwalia, Narkatiyaganj, Gaunaha etc. boycotted the voting but voted later. Here the district administration failed completely.
