Volatility of Sensex fell 269 points to close at 77209

Auto index down 405 points: Tube Invest drops Rs 223 to Rs 3987: Tata Motors, Mahindra down

Funds continued to take profit selling in automobile companies' stocks today on warning of imminent hike in petrol, diesel prices along with rising crude oil prices. Among key event stocks, Tube Investments fell Rs 222.85 to Rs 3986.90, Balkrishna Industries fell Rs 116.80 to Rs 3200.15, Tata Motors fell Rs 17.05 to Rs 961.05, Mahindra & Mahindra fell Rs 33.70 to close at Rs 5451.90, Hero Motocorp fell Rs 53.35 to Rs 5451.90, MRF fell Rs 1148.70 to Rs 1,25,211, Sundaram fell Rs 7.70 to Rs 1293.50. BSE Auto index fell 405.81 points to close at 56742.38.

Among capital goods stocks, Carborundum fell by Rs 58 to Rs 1691: Teamcan fell by Rs 129.75 to Rs 4430.

The BSE Capital Goods index closed 694.34 points lower at 71779.22 as funds resumed selling in capital goods-power stocks today. While Rail Vikas rose by Rs 22.35 to Rs 409.70, Suzlon NG rose by Rs 2.52 to Rs 53.04.

Funds ease the trade on gains in FMCG stocks: Nestle India, Vadilal, Bannari Aman fall

FMCG stocks also fell today with the BSE FMCG index closing 220.97 points lower at 20,325.88 as funds partially offset the bullish trade. Brent prices at $85.62 as crude rises: Reliance, Linde India, HPCL, BPCL fall

Funds sold oil and gas stocks today as crude oil prices continued to strengthen internationally. In the evening, Brent crude was at $ 85.62 and Nymex crude was at $ 81.22. The BSE oil-gas index closed at 28863.30, down 375.29 points. Caution reduces overbought conditions in small, mid-cap stocks: 2,086 stocks close negative

The market breadth turned from positive to negative as operators pared excessive buying conditions over the weekend, with many small, mid-cap stocks and fund-of-funds cautiously trading higher.
