In Sanatan Dharma, the festival of Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated with great pomp on the Sankranti (or Kanya Sankranti) day of Bhadrapada month. According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishwakarma is considered to be the first architect, craftsman and divine engineer of the universe. On this day, apart from factories, factories, industries, construction sites, people worship their offices, shops, home machines, computers, laptops, tools and their vehicles (cars, bikes) with all rituals. It is believed that worshiping machines on this day increases the life of machines, prevents the risk of accidents and brings prosperity in business.

According to the Panchang, this year Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated with the entry of Sun into Virgo. 17 September 2026 (Wednesday) Will be celebrated.

  • Moment of Solstice: On September 17, Sun God will move out of Leo and transit into Virgo.

  • Best time for puja: early morning 07:39 am to 12:26 pm The time will be extremely auspicious for worship and consecration of instruments. Apart from this, Abhijeet Muhurat in the afternoon will also be considered best for worship.

While worshiping Yantras, people often unknowingly commit some mistakes which are not considered as per the scriptures:

  • 1. Worship of dirty or unwashed car/machine: Clean your car, bike or tools thoroughly a day or in the morning before performing the puja. Never apply Roli-Haldi tilak directly on a dirty machine covered with dust, dirt or grease.

  • 2. Applying Sindoor/Roli directly on iron or metal: By applying pure vermillion or roli directly on the surface of iron or steel, there is a risk of stains and rust on the metal. Always make a light paste by mixing a little Ganga water and pure cow’s ghee or oil in Roli or turmeric and also use Kalava (Raksha Sutra) while applying Tilak.

  • 3. Ignoring cleanliness at the workplace: Many people simply complete the formalities by applying tilak on the machine, whereas the main message of Vishwakarma Puja is respect for labour, workplace cleanliness and equipment. Do not leave filth in every corner of the factory or office.

  • 4. Arrogance or carelessness: Lord Vishwakarma is a symbol of machines and labour. Do not insult any employee, mechanic or laborer on the day of puja and honor them by giving them gifts or prasad.

If you are performing Vishwakarma puja at your shop, factory or home, follow these easy steps:

  1. Bathing and purification: After taking bath in the morning, wear clean clothes. Decorate the arch of mango or ashoka leaves at the main entrance of the factory or workplace and make rangoli.

  2. Pooja Chowki: Install a picture or idol of Lord Vishwakarma by spreading a red or yellow cloth on a clean stool. Also keep an urn filled with water in front of them.

  3. Decoration of instruments: Clean your car, bike, laptop, computer or factory machines and tie Kalava (orange thread) on them.

  4. Tilak of turmeric-roli and Akshat: Apply tilak of turmeric, roli and akshat (whole rice) on major parts of machines, steering, tires or tools.

  5. Incense lamps and offerings: Burn incense and incense sticks. Offer flowers, fruits, sweets and coconut to Lord Vishwakarma. Keep prasad near the machines also.

  6. Chanting the mantra: Recite this mantra with devotion during the puja:

‘Om Vishwakarmane Namah’ Or ‘Om Aadharrupaya Namah’

  7. After Aarti, distribute Prasad to everyone and seek blessings.
