Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality training modules for enhanced knowledge of Railway employees | News India

Guwahati, September 2 (HS). To improve the knowledge of railway employees on safety related aspects, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has implemented an innovative Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality (VR and MR) training module at its Multi-Disciplinary Regional Training Institute (MDZTI) located at Alipurduar. This digital hub for soft skill training of Indian Railways module has been designed for all running and safety staff associated with train operations. Trainees can be guided by a comprehensive tutorial on the respective work nature with the use of headsets and joysticks.

NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma on Monday informed that earlier, the training was in two phases i.e. theoretical and practical for which classroom teaching and practical sessions were conducted. However, with technological advancement and introduction of VR & MR training modules, real-time experience can be gained. This advanced module also helped in improving access to standard parameters in real-time conditions. So far, a total of 2020 trainees i.e. 516 station managers, 372 train managers, 555 loco pilots, 550 assistant loco pilots and 27 junior engineers and senior section engineers of P. Way have been successfully trained under this VR & MR module.

The use of Virtual Reality & Mixed Reality for advanced training practices will change the overall perspective of trainees in gaining knowledge of the particular schedule. The introduction of this innovative training approach will not only enhance the effectiveness of the frontline staff but will also emphasise on safety and operational excellence across the railway network.
