Violent protests have started in Bangladesh over reservation in government jobs. 6 citizens have died and more than 400 have been injured in the protests. Now it has been learned that educational institutions have been forced to remain closed indefinitely.

The protests came after the Bangladesh High Court's June 5 decision, in which the court approved a 30 percent reservation quota in government jobs for freedom fighters and their descendants. This was repealed in 2018 after students and teachers launched a massive movement.

On Sunday, PM Sheikh Hasina added fuel to the fire by comparing the protesters to Razakars. Razakars is a term used in Bangladesh for traitors. Razakars behaved in a black way by opposing the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Government jobs are the most preferred career option in Bangladesh.

According to news agency AP, every year about 4 lakh graduates appear for exams for 3000 government posts. As of 2018, 56 percent of government jobs were reserved for various categories. Of which 30 percent was given to the families who fought for the independence of Bangladesh. 10 percent is given to women and people from underdeveloped districts, while 1 percent is given to tribal communities and 5 percent to disabled persons.
