Kolkata, August 15 (HS). On Wednesday night, women launched a 'Raat Occupy' campaign to protest against the rape and murder of a junior female doctor at Arazi Kar Medical College. Meanwhile, a group attacked RG Kar Hospital. After this incident, there was an atmosphere of vandalism and violence in the hospital. Some youths broke the barricades and broke the gate of the emergency department and went inside and vandalized it. The protest stage of the protesters was also demolished. During this, stones were pelted on the policemen, in which some policemen were injured. Police vehicles were also damaged. This incident created panic in the city during the 'Raat Occupy' campaign.

Trinamool Congress's All India General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee has strongly condemned the violent incident that took place at midnight at RG Kar Hospital. He demanded the police to arrest the 'criminals' within 24 hours. Abhishek Banerjee strongly condemned the incident on his 'X' handle and wrote, “The hooliganism that took place at RG Kar has crossed all limits. As a public representative, I have spoken to the Kolkata Police Commissioner and requested him to take action within 24 hours against the elements involved in this incident, regardless of their political background. The demands of the protesting doctors are justified. Demanding security from the government is a minimum right, it should be taken seriously.”

Police commissioner's clarification

As soon as the information about the incident was received, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal reached the spot. After taking stock of the situation, he told the media that DCP North also suffered serious injuries in this incident and he fainted. Blaming the media's wrong reporting for the situations created during the movement, he said that Kolkata Police is concerned about this matter. Expressing displeasure, the Commissioner said that Kolkata Police has made every possible effort to investigate the RG Kar incident. I can say responsibly that my colleagues are working hard day and night to get to the bottom of this matter. They have left no stone unturned in gathering evidence. The main accused has already been arrested. We stand with the family and deny many kinds of rumors.

Shubhendu targeted Mamata

Opposition leader Shubhendu Adhikari blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the entire matter. He wrote on Twitter, “Mamata Banerjee herself had sent Trinamool goons to the political rally. She believed that her goons would mix with the crowd of protesters and do RG and do hooliganism in the hospital and people would not understand anything. The police made a way for the goons to escape. Wherever there was important evidence, it was vandalized so that the CBI could not reach those evidences, but by breaking the stage of the protesters, the whole game of these goons has come to the fore.
