Kolkata, August 15 (HS). Violence suddenly broke out in Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital on Wednesday night. At midnight on Independence Day, when lakhs of men and women were on the streets of Kolkata, suddenly a group tried to break the gate of the emergency department, causing chaos in the hospital. During this incident, the police was called on the spot, but it could not be clear who the vandals were. According to local sources, many policemen were injured while trying to control the situation. According to the police, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal himself may reach the spot.

The incident started at night when a group of women protested in front of the hospital under the 'Raat Daakhal' program. It is alleged that only after that a group broke the police barricade and entered the hospital and tried to break the emergency gate. The hospital administration says that the attackers had sticks, rods and stones, with which they broke the glass of several wards and police vehicles.

To control the situation, the police have cordoned off the entire area and Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed. The police also fired tear gas shells and managed to disperse a section of the attackers, but the situation is still not completely under control. The attackers are still pelting bricks at the police, causing serious head injuries to a policeman.

There are also allegations from a section of the hospital that the police initially delayed in responding to the incident. Why did the police not act immediately during this sudden attack? The answer to this question has not been found yet.

Condemning the incident, Trinamool Congress leader Shantanu Sen said, “This incident is extremely reprehensible. We all want that the culprits of the incident at RG Kar Hospital should be punished. But if a patient has to return in the name of agitation, then it is not acceptable. Also, this kind of vandalism cannot be tolerated.”

It is noteworthy that a 'Raat Dakhal' program was organized to protest against the rape and murder of a female doctor in RG Kar Hospital. But the violence that took place in the meantime has raised many questions. It is not yet clear who were behind this attack.
