Regarding Sambhal’s Jama Masjid, the Hindu side claims that it is a Harihar temple. The Hindu side approached the court regarding this, after which the court ordered a survey. Today during the survey the crowd created ruckus and pelted stones at the police.

During the survey of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a mob pelted stones at the police team. After this the policemen fired tear gas shells and chased away the miscreants. Police from 5 police stations including DM and SP are deployed on the spot. There is tension between them. Meanwhile, the police have detained some miscreants from the spot.

On the orders of the court, the Advocate Commissioner arrived for the survey. Meanwhile, a crowd started gathering outside the Shahi Jama Masjid and an uproar started regarding the survey. Although the officers tried to pacify the crowd, some people started pelting stones targeting the police team.

‘Don’t pay attention to rumours…’, police appeals for peace

After the stone pelting incident, police were seen appealing to the people in the area for peace. Police officials said to maintain peace and not pay attention to any rumour. An officer said that strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to create unrest. On the basis of video footage, all the miscreants involved in the stone pelting incident are being identified.

A video of the stone pelting incident has also surfaced, in which some miscreants are seen pelting stones at the police. In the area where stone pelting took place, slippers of many people were found on the road. The markets were closed after this incident. Shops in this area were seen closed.

Court ordered survey

The court heard the petition and ordered its survey after a Hindu party approached the court describing Jama Masjid in Sambhal district as Harihar Temple. The mosque was surveyed on the night of 19 November. Today, on 24th November, the survey team again reached Shahi Jama Masjid for the survey. However, the mosque committee has agreed to the survey and the mosque is being surveyed in the presence of both the parties.
