New Delhi, August 14 (HS). Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat's hopes of winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 have suffered a setback. The International Council of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected Vinesh's appeal.

Actually, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified in the final of freestyle wrestling in the 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics due to being 100 grams overweight. After which Vinesh had demanded a silver medal saying that she had won three consecutive matches. Now the CAS decision has come in this case, in which Vinesh Phogat's appeal has been rejected and she has been refused a silver medal.

At the same time, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha has expressed surprise and disappointment over the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) decision to reject Vinesh Phogat's application. She has said, 'I am shocked and disappointed by the decision of the sole arbitrator of the Sports Arbitration on Vinesh Phogat's appeal against United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee. The effective part of the August 14 decision rejecting Vinesh's application for a shared silver medal in the women's 50 kg category at the Paris Olympic Games has important implications for her in particular and for the sports community at large.'
