'Vinesh did not want Paris Olympics…', claims senior lawyer Harish Salve | News India

Vinesh Phogat's lawyer claims: Lawyer Harish Salve has claimed regarding the Paris Olympics that, 'Vinesh Phogat did not want us to challenge the decision taken against her in the Sports Arbitration. On August 7, the Sports Arbitration ruled that wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight before the women's 50 kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics. Due to which wrestler Vinesh Phogat was out of the final.

Harish Salve represented him as lawyer

When the Olympic Association disqualified Vinesh before the final, she did not get any support from the Indian Olympic Association. Our lawyer already seemed comfortable with that decision. However, after Vinesh was disqualified, the Indian Olympic Association and Vinesh Phogat appealed against this decision. In which Harish Salve represented them as a lawyer, but their petition was rejected and Vinesh had to return without a medal.

Vinesh was not ready to go to Swiss court

Harish Salve said, 'After our representation, Vinesh Phogat did not want to challenge the decision given by the Court of Arbitration for Sports. However, after this we worked hard to get all the documents and information required to file an appeal. But our appeal was rejected. We can challenge the decision in the Swiss court against the arbitration decision, but Phogat did not respond, as his lawyers told me that Vinesh did not want to take it forward.'

Lack of coordination among Phogat's lawyers

Salve alleged that there was a lack of coordination among Phogat's lawyers as some lawyers told the better law firm appointed by the Indian Olympic Association, 'We will not share anything with you.'
