Jammu, May 27 (HS). State President of Hindustan Shiv Sena, Vikrant Kapoor, while criticizing the government for irregular power cuts in the scorching heat, has said that despite the installation of smart meters, the government has completely failed to provide 24-hour electricity to the people of Jammu. He said that while installing smart meters, the government had promised the people that after the installation of smart meters, people will be provided uninterrupted 24-hour electricity. The government also assured that people will not get high electricity bills, but all these claims of the government have proved to be hollow.
Vikrant Kapoor said this while expressing his views during a press conference in Jammu on Monday. He said that in this summer season, people are suffering from heat due to power cuts of 6 to 7 hours, while in some places power cuts are being done for hours under the pretext of bad weather. Apart from this, people of many areas are facing problems due to low voltage, while in some places people are being given huge electricity bills.
He said that the government had claimed that after the installation of smart meters, along with providing electricity round the clock, the issue of high bills will also be resolved but all the claims of the government have proved hollow and people are upset. This is also adversely affecting the education of children. Vikrant Kapoor said that the electricity produced in Jammu Kashmir is sold to other states but the people of Jammu Kashmir have to crave for electricity. He said that the people of Jammu Kashmir have the first right on the electricity produced in the state and the electricity produced here should first be supplied to Jammu Kashmir and only then should it be sold to other states.
He has demanded from the Central Government and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that they should take this matter seriously and give priority to solving the problem of power cuts and other problems faced by the people of Jammu in this summer season. He said that at this time the Central Government is directly looking after the matters of Jammu and Kashmir, so the Central Government should also take immediate steps to solve this problem of the people so that they can get rid of this problem and they can breathe a sigh of relief.
Vikrant Kapoor has warned that if this problem of the people is not solved immediately, then they will protest strongly against it in the coming days and the government will be fully responsible for the situation arising out of it. During the press conference, senior leaders of Hindustan Shiv Sena Baba Ram Kaith, Rohan, Abhishek, Himanshu, Amit, women wing leader Jyoti Devi and others were also present.
