Khunti, June 24 (HS). Under community policing, an awareness campaign against drug abuse was conducted among the children of classes 8, 9 and 10 at SS 2 School Rania as well as among the general public at the Rania weekly market on Monday.
Information was given about not selling liquor in the market and various villages, about the harm caused by intoxicants, about following traffic rules, wearing helmets while driving, and about the ill-effects of opium-poppy cultivation. Addressing the programme, Rania police station in-charge Vikas Jaiswal said that there is an old saying that if there is intoxication in someone's house, his house is destroyed.
Therefore we have to give up alcohol consumption at any cost. He said that alcohol consumption is the biggest reason for the destruction of society and family. Jaiswal said that the entire society will have to stand together to keep society and family safe. While discussing superstitions like witch hunting, the police station in-charge said that witch hunting is just a superstition and it is a big basis for ruining the society. He said that we will have to get out of the evil practice like witch hunting. He said that in our society women are called goddess and the epitome of kindness. Then how can a woman kill another woman. Therefore we will have to get out of this superstition.
He said that there is a provision of strict punishment for harassing someone by calling them a witch. Jaiswal said that cultivation of opium is like cultivation of poison. Therefore, never cultivate it. Opium and other intoxicants have a very bad effect on the society. He said that it is the responsibility of the whole society to make people aware against witch-hunting and intoxication.
