Purnia, June 22 (HS). BJP MLA from Sadar Purnia Vijay Khemka said on Saturday that the flag hoisting program celebrated every year at midnight before Independence Day at 12:01 am on 14 August 1947 at Bhaththa Jhanda Chowk, Purnia headquarters, should be given the status of a state festival. He has given a request letter to this effect to Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Art and Culture Department Vijay Kumar Sinha.
The MLA said that after the flag hoisting ceremony celebrated at 12.01 midnight at Wagah border, Purnia is the second historical place in the country, where flag hoisting ceremony is organized with great pomp every year by freedom fighters, social workers and local citizens. But it is sad that till date the district administration has not participated in such an important program of national importance. Whereas I have also done correspondence in the past.
MLA Khemka demanded to give the status of state festival to the flag hoisting program celebrated at Purnia Jhanda Chowk after independence on the midnight before Independence Day and requested to celebrate the flag hoisting program under the supervision of the district administration on 14 August 2024 this year.
The MLA also requested for early construction of four-lane service roads on both sides of the railway over bridge situated at Khushkibaag on NH-31 in Purnia city under Path Division Purnia. The Deputy Chief Minister took both the issues seriously and assured to take further action.
