Hamirpur, 09 September (HS). On Monday, a 12-member anti-corruption team from Banda caught the junior engineer of Public Works Department Section 2, affiliated to Sumerpur Nagar Panchayat of the district, red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor. An FIR has been registered in Sadar Kotwali on the complaint of the contractor. The team has taken the JE with them to Banda.
Sumerpur resident Nagar Panchayat contractor Praveen Kumar son of late Chhedilal had done development work in 2022-23, for which payment had been made. The contractor was visiting junior engineer Ramesh Kumar Gupta son of late Kanhaiya Lal Gupta, currently engineer section 2, Public Works Department, Hamirpur, for several days to get its security withdrawn. The contractor told that on August 29, he had complained to the EO of the Nagar Panchayat. On September 3, the clerk of the Panchayat sought a report from junior engineer Ramesh Gupta working in Public Works Department section number 2 regarding security clearance in the report. Since then he was constantly in touch with the junior engineer. In lieu of his security of two lakh rupees, the JE had demanded 20 thousand rupees. The JE was not ready to file a report without taking bribe. On September 6, he complained about this to the Anti Corruption Team Banda. After this, the team hatched a conspiracy to nab the commission-seeking junior engineer. The team reached the PWD office at 1 pm on Monday and caught the JE taking a bribe of Rs 20,000.
As soon as the FIR was filed, the team took the engineer into custody in Banda
Under the leadership of Inspector Shyam Babu, in-charge of the vigilance team, along with Inspector Sabir Ali, Inspector Omprakash, constable Shivprakash Sharma, Devendra Pratap Singh, Sachin Kumar Chaurasia, Ajay Kumar Saini, Chandrapal Singh, Nitin Kanchan, Abhishek Singh, Sundar Raikwar and constables Sharda Prasad Yadav, the JE has been arrested here for taking bribe. This action has created a stir in the department. Team in-charge Shyam Babu told on Monday evening that this action has been taken on the complaint of the contractor. A case has been registered in Sadar Kotwali.
