Punjab Vigilance Bureau has caught Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Gurmukh Singh, posted at Pakkhowal, Ludhiana, red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state. Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the said Panchayat officer has been arrested on the complaint of Panchayat Secretary Paramjeet Singh posted in Block Pakhowal, Ludhiana.
He further said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the said officer was demanding a bribe of Rs 35,000 from him in exchange for releasing the salaries of him and three other Panchayat Secretaries working in the same office. The complainant said that till now he has collected Rs 30 thousand through mutual donation, but he does not want to pay bribe.
The spokesperson said that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap, in which the accused BDPO was arrested red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. He further said that the accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and further investigation of the case is going on.
