Anshuman Gaekwad passed away: Former Indian cricket team batsman and Team India coach Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away after a long illness. He was suffering from blood cancer and was undergoing treatment in London. He breathed his last at the age of 71.

He played for the Indian cricket team in the 1970-80s and was undergoing treatment at King's College Hospital in London. Former team veterans Kapil Dev and Sandeep Patil appealed to Gaikwad's family for financial help. After which, 15 days ago, a help of Rs 1 crore was announced by the BCCI.

Such was the career
Anshuman Gaekwad made his Test debut against West Indies in Kolkata on 27 December 1974. He retired from cricket after playing his last match in Kolkata in 1984. He scored 1985 runs in 40 Test matches with two centuries and 10 half-centuries at an average of 30. His best score was 201 runs, which he made against Pakistan.
He also played 15 ODIs, scoring 269 runs.
Became coach after retirement from cricket
After retiring from cricket, he continued his career in coaching. He was the head coach of the team during 1997-99. Not only this, he also worked in GSFC.
It is known that in June 2018, BCCI honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
