Mumbai: Vehicle sales witnessed a mixed trend in the month ending November. Sales of off-road vehicles saw a decline of 14 percent while sales of two-wheelers saw a growth of 16 percent. Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) showed that total vehicle sales increased by 11.20 percent last month due to increase in two-wheeler sales.
Total sales of all types of vehicles in November stood at 32,08,719 units, which is 11.20 percent as compared to 28,85,317 units in November last year.
Due to the wedding season, an increase of 15.80 percent has been seen in the sales of two-wheelers. The sales figure of two-wheelers in November 2024 has been 26,15,953 as compared to 22,58,970 two-wheelers in November 2023. However, the wedding season has not been of any benefit to the automakers.
Sales of Yutaaru vehicles declined by 13.72 percent year-on-year to 3,21,943 in November from 3,73,140 in November last year.
FADA sources said that in the current year, due to Dussehra and Diwali festivals being held in October, the sales of Utaru vehicles were higher in October, due to which the sales in November remained sluggish.
The November wedding season was not as fruitful as automakers had hoped. Overall vehicle sales have witnessed an increase due to good support in the rural market.
Despite higher rural demand, there has been no major decline in vehicle inventory. Inventory levels are still at a 65 to 68-day high. Manufacturers have been urged by FADA to keep inventory at practical levels, which will allow them to enter the new year strong and avoid the need to offer deep discounts.
Sales of commercial vehicles have also seen a decline of 6.08 percent last month. It was claimed that sales of commercial vehicles were also affected due to elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
The outlook for December does not look particularly promising, but FADA expects sentiment to improve in the coming months due to strengthening of the macroeconomic environment due to the bumper Kharif crop.
