The price of a plate of home-cooked vegetarian food increased by seven percent from Rs 25.5 in March 2023 to Rs 27.3 in March. According to the latest report of rating agency Crisil, the price of non-vegetarian thali decreased by seven percent from Rs 59.2 to Rs 54.9 during the same period. Thus, the gap between vegetarian and non-vegetarian plates is rapidly decreasing. The vegetarian thali consists of roti, onion, tomato, potato, rice, curd and salad. The non-vegetarian thali also has the same food items but instead of dal, chicken is added. According to the report, due to short supply last year, the price of rice increased by 14 per cent and the price of pulses by 22 per cent, while non-vegetarian thali became cheaper to such an extent that the price of chicken fell by 16 per cent. ,
How is the average cost of a plate determined?
It is noteworthy that the average price of a plate of home-cooked food is calculated based on input prices in North, South, East and East India. According to a CRISIL report, the prices of onion, tomato and potato have increased by 40 percent, 36 percent and 22 percent respectively on annual basis, due to which vegetarian thali has become expensive. In comparison, due to huge increase in the production of chicken, its price has declined by 16 percent annually. However, the report said prices of non-vegetarian thali increased by two per cent in March compared to February due to increase in oil prices.
