Vegetable and food crops are being prepared through organic method in CSJMU.

Kanpur, 17 September (HS). Under the School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), the students of Post Graduate Horticulture Department are producing brinjal and ladyfinger (violet color) through organic farming in agricultural form. School Director Dr. Himanshu Trivedi said on Thursday that in the research work of postgraduate students, red ladyfinger and brinjal, rich in nutrients and beneficial for health, are being produced through organic method. Along with this, research work is being done on tomato and capsicum in the polyhouse located in the university and on dragonfruit, papaya, strawberry, gladiolus and tuberose in the open field.

He told that the students of Master of Agricultural Sciences are working on crop research field on various food crops like wheat, barley, maize, millet and pulse crops – moong, urad, arhar, lentil, gram etc., weed management, nutrient management and nano fertilizers. Research work is being done on subjects like improved crop sowing methods and water and irrigation management etc. Special cookies, various products made from millets (laddus, cookies, breads etc.) are being produced by the postgraduate Food Science and Technology students in their postgraduate research work in the university campus to reduce the post delivery problems.

Pro Vice Chancellor of the University and Dean of School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Prof. Sudhir Kumar Awasthi said that more than the need for agricultural products today, it is more important that this production be of quality and free from the destructive effects of chemicals. Therefore, in the research work of the students of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University, emphasis is being given to the research work on the production of vegetables and grains through organic and natural methods, which is mainly based on cow-based farming system.
