Mumbai: A new trend has been seen at the Bollywood box office. The films being re-released are earning more than their original releases released years ago. Now Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee's film 'Veer Zara' has also been included in this list.
When the film was released 20 years ago, it grossed a total of 98 crores. This time it has grossed over 102 crores. The songs of the film were superhits at the time of its original release, but given its star cast, it failed to earn as much as expected. However, its popularity kept growing over the years.
Earlier films, including Tripti Dimri's 'Laila Majnu' and Sohum Shah's 'Tumbad', have also earned more in re-release than their original release.
A new generation of audience is turning to theatres to watch films that are easily available on OTT. This has created a wave of happiness in the theatre business circles.
