Varanasi, 21 November (HS). District Program Officer (DPO) under the Department of Child Development Services and Nutrition, D.K. Singh said that Varanasi ranks first in the entire Uttar Pradesh in the Chief Minister Bal Seva Yojana and Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Yojana. Anganwadi workers are making valuable contribution even at the village level. Better work is being done in Varanasi in removing gender discrimination. DPO ICDS D.K. Singh was addressing the workshop organized at the Commissionerate Auditorium on Thursday on the completion of 75 years of UNICEF and 35 years of Universal Child Rights.
He said that Varanasi Mandal is committed to the safety, nutrition and health of the child. In the workshop, Dr. Kanupriya Singhal (Health Specialist) from UNICEF Lucknow shared the work and achievements of UNICEF on completion of 75 years. And reiterated the commitment to work further with the government. In the workshop, emphasis was laid on establishing coordination with government departments for children’s rights, health, nutrition, safety and protection. Additional Director Health and Family Welfare Varanasi Division Dr. M.P. said that people should know about their health and rights. Take full advantage of government schemes, so that their health, nutrition and future remains bright.
Beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana from Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalaya also participated in the workshop and shared their experiences. Beneficiary Nancy Sonkar told that after the death of her father, she is studying with the money received under the Child Service Scheme. I want to become a teacher when I grow up. Yash Sonkar told that after the death of his father, it was difficult to pay school fees and education, he got relief from this scheme and his studies are continuing. Bharti, Roshni and Riya, who came from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and Mahabodhi Inter College, shared their views and experiences through Meena Manch on issues related to safety of adolescent girls and women, mission power, gender and color discrimination in school and community. Ghazipur’s SP City and Chief Medical Officer shared their views related to children.
Chief Medical Officer from Jaunpur district also participated in the workshop. The Chief Medical Officer of Chandauli expected UNICEF to cooperate in the program to save children from tobacco consumption. The workshop was presided over by Additional Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Gupta. Officers from the three districts of the division, Ghazipur, Chandauli and Jaunpur, joined the workshop virtually.
