Jammu/Katra. A very important and big news is coming for the devotees visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, the famous pilgrimage site of Jammu and Kashmir. According to a special ground report of Zee News, Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra remains temporarily suspended for the third consecutive day due to torrential rains and bad weather in Trikuta Hills and base camp Katra for the last 72 hours.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and the local administration have taken this step in view of the ‘Yellow Alert’ of heavy rain issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Due to this sudden ban, more than 10 thousand devotees are stranded in Katra and surrounding areas, waiting for the weather to clear and the journey to resume.
Big stones fell on battery car route, landslide in Bhairav valley also
Due to continuous rains in the mountains, the risk of landslides has increased significantly, making the roads extremely unsafe:

Rocks slide near Satya Restaurant: Due to heavy rain on Trikuta mountain last night, the most important shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi was destroyed. Battery Car Track (New Track) Large rocks, debris and pebbles have been reported falling from the hill in Satya Restaurant area.

Bhairav Valley route affected: Apart from this, incidents of partial mudslide and falling of stones have also been reported on the footpath leading to Bhairav Ghati Route from the building. However, the disaster management staff of Mustaid Shrine Board is continuously engaged in the work of removing debris from the roads.
Amarnath and Shiv Khodi Yatra also put on break, heavy alert till 23rd July

Triangular adjournment: Along with Vaishno Devi, the holy pilgrimage going on in Kashmir division Amarnath Yatra has also been completely stopped from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Additionally, the famous Visit to Shiv Khori Cave (Shiv Khori Shrine) has also been closed due to security reasons.

Alert till 23rd July: IMD has predicted torrential rains and lightning in the entire Jammu division and Reasi district till July 23, 2026.
Shrine Board’s appeal: ‘Devotees should stay safely wherever they are’
The administrative spokesperson has appealed to all the pilgrims who have reached Jammu and Katra to cooperate fully with the authorities in the interest of their safety and not to attempt to climb towards the building until the weather completely clears and the track is officially declared safe.
All the registration counters of Katra have been kept closed for the time being. Pilgrims have been advised to remain at their places of stay (hotels or dharamshalas) and in case of any emergency, contact the helpline numbers of the Shrine Board. The Shrine Board is constantly reviewing the changing weather patterns and condition of the routes and a decision will be taken to resume the Yatra as soon as the conditions improve.
