72 -year -old Raja Maha Waziralongcorn took over the Thai throne in 2016 after his father’s death. Formally known as Ram X, he has married four times and has a queen and a royal wife. Royal succession has been questioned due to his health, age and complex family ties.
Why is the royal succession unclear?
Laws of Thailand’s succession prioritize men successors. Raja Ram X’s only officially recognized son Prince Dipangkorn has a development disorder, due to which it can be difficult for him to rule. Most other sons of Ram X, including Vacharasorn, lost their royal titles in 1996.
Why can Vivacharavongs be a possible successor?
After being formally expelled from the royal dynasty about thirty years ago, Vicharesorn is currently undergoing a quiet rehabilitation. According to vanitatis, the male royal family in Thailand live in the monastery for some time before assuming a public position. Many thinkers now consider the coordination of Vivacharavongse as an indication that they can be re -seated in office.
