Rudraprayag, 31 August (HS). A helicopter fell into the river in Kedarnath. This helicopter had broken down during landing in May and was to be repaired. On Saturday morning, this damaged helicopter was being lifted by an MI-17 helicopter and taken to Gauchar airstrip. During this, the MI-17 started getting unbalanced. Sensing the danger, the pilot dropped the helicopter in the valley after looking for an empty space.
District tourism officer Rahul Chaubey said that on May 24 this year, due to technical fault, the helicopter had to make an emergency landing some distance away from the Kedarnath helipad. Due to the presence of mind of the pilot, all the passengers on board the helicopter had a safe landing.
The tourism officer said that on Saturday, there was a plan to take the helicopter to Gauchar airstrip for repairs, according to which Crystal Aviation's helicopter was to be taken to Gauchar by hanging it from the Air Force's MI 17 helicopter at 7 am. As soon as it came a little distance, the MI 17 started losing its balance due to the weight of the helicopter and the effect of wind, due to which the helicopter had to be dropped from the MI 17 when it reached near Tharu camp. There was no passenger or luggage in the helicopter.
