Satna, March 9 (HS). The famous three-day 49th Ustad Alauddin Khan festival held every year in Maihar concluded late on Saturday evening. On this occasion, the cultural evening was filled with Tabla, Flute Sarod Tigalbandi by Kolkata's Ustad Shabir Khan, Sudeep Chattopadhyay and Shiraz Ali Khan.
On the third and last day of the Ustad Alauddin Khan Music Festival, lamps were lit at Madina Bhawan and the venue to pay tribute to the world famous Baba Ustad Alauddin Sahab. The artists who performed on this occasion were honored with shawl-shriphal by the organizing committee.
At the beginning of the program, a grand presentation of “Raag Sindoora Jhaptaal Me Nibday” was given by the artists of Maihar Orchestra. After this, Anupiya Deotale from Delhi gave a performance on violin which left the audience emotional. The third presentation of the program was a singing presentation by Pandit Harish Tiwari. In the next episode, Tabla, Basuri and Sarod Tigalbandi by Ustad Savir Kha, Pandit Sudeep Chattopadhyay and Shiraz Ali Khan Kolkata kept the audience engrossed. At the end of the ceremony, Dhrupad was sung by Pandit Naval Kishore Malik, New Delhi and concluded with the presentation of local artists.
Baba Alauddin Khan had created amazing musical instruments
Padma awarded Baba Ustad Alauddin Khan was a very famous sarod player not only in India but also in the country and the world. While making the city of Mother Sharda in Maihar as his place of work, Baba Alauddin Khan had created the wonderful musical instrument Nal Tarang from the barrel of a gun. The Meher Band created by him is still famous in the country and the world. In 1954, the Sangeet Natya Akademi awarded Baba Alauddin Khan its highest honour, the Sangeet Natya Akademi Fellowship. After this, Baba Alauddin Khan was honored with Padma Bhushan in 1958 and Padma Vibhushan in 1971 in the field of art. Baba's son was the famous sarod player Ali Akbar Khan and uncle of Annapurna Devi's father, Raja Hussain Khan. Apart from this, Baba Pandit was also the guru of successful musicians like Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, Pannalal Ghos, Basant Rai, Bahadur Rai. Baba became famous due to his simple nature and hard work.
Alauddin Khan Saheb was born in 1862 in Shivpur, a small town in Brahmanbaria district of Bengal and died on 6 September 1972. His father's name was Sardar Hussain Khan. His elder brother Fakir Aftabuddin introduced Baba to music. Baba's special recordings broadcast on All India Radio in the 1950s made him famous in the country and the world. Alauddin Khan was made the court musician of the Maharaja of Maihar. While being a courtier, Baba developed many ragas and established the Maihar Instrumental Band by combining bass sitar and bass sarod with modern instruments. In the Maihar Raj Gharana, Baba himself composed Banjo Sitar with the combination of Sitar and Sarod and Nal Tarang with gun tubes, which has been appreciated in the country and the world. Every year the three-day Ustad Alauddin Khan Music Festival is organized with great pomp in Maihar. Music lovers automatically get attracted to this program after listening to its captivating tune. On this occasion, Baba's bungalow and tomb are decorated.
