Tel Aviv, August 20 (HS). US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who arrived in Israel a day earlier amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, said on Monday that Israel has accepted the proposal to resolve the deadlock over a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. Along with this, Blinken also called on Hamas to do the same. However, he did not say whether Israel has paid heed to the concerns raised by the extremist group.
Blinken's statement came after a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday and he is expected to visit Egypt on Tuesday. Blinken said, “In a very positive meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu today, he supported the proposal.” He said it is important that Hamas also agrees to it.
The US, Egypt and Qatar tried for months to reach an agreement, but the talks repeatedly hit deadlocks. They did not say whether the agreement proposal included Israel's demands for control over two strategic corridors inside Gaza. Hamas said that the talks have not even started.
