American Emma Navarro continued her impressive performance and entered the women's singles semi-finals of the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament on home ground, where she will face Aryna Sabalenko.
13th seed Navarro, who reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, defeated compatriot Paula Badosa 6-2, 7-5 in the quarter-finals at the main stadium of Flushing Meadows. In the match, Navarro was at one point behind in the second set but won the last six games to turn the match in her favor. She did the same in her last match against former champion Coco Gauff. Second seed Sabalenko continued her campaign with a 6-1, 6-2 win over seventh seed Zheng Qinwen, who won the women's singles gold medal at the Paris Olympics last month. Legendary tennis player Roger Federer also attended the match. He attended the US Open as a spectator for the first time after retiring. Australian Open champion Sabalenko is trying to win her second Grand Slam of the year and third overall. She has reached the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time at the US Open and was the runner-up last year.
