US President Joe Biden on Sunday greeted the Muslim community around the world on the first day of the month of Ramadan. Referring to the Israel-Hamas conflict in his message, he said that America will continue to work for at least a six-week ceasefire in Gaza under the agreement for the release of Israeli hostages.
“We will continue to work toward a lasting and far-reaching stability, security, and peaceful future,” Biden said. We will also continue our efforts to reach an agreement on a settlement between Israel and Palestine, so that the people of Palestine and Israel can enjoy equal freedom, dignity, security and prosperity. This is the only path to lasting peace.” He said the U.S. will continue to lead international efforts to provide maximum humanitarian assistance to Gaza by land, air and sea.
'The Gaza war has harmed the Palestinian people'
Wishing the Muslim community a happy Ramadan, he said, “This holy month is a time for reflection and new beginnings. This year this month has come at a very troublesome time. The war in Gaza has caused terrible suffering to the Palestinian people. More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in this war. Most of these are common citizens. Thousands of children are involved in this. “Many American Muslims have family members who are mourning the loss of loved ones today.”
It is noteworthy that the US government has supported Israel's right to take action against Hamas after the October 7 attack. However, he warned Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that he should pay more attention to the deaths of innocent people due to this action.
