UPITS 2026: Dishes of Eastern UP will get global recognition

Gorakhpur, 19 September. The sweet aroma of the soil of Gorakhpur division of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the local traditional delicious dishes will no longer be limited to just the streets and squares, but will gain global recognition. With the encouragement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ambitious scheme ODOC (One District One Dish), these dishes are ready to hit the lips of buyers and tourists from all over the world on the international stage. This time, the traditional cuisine of Gorakhpur division will also be seen in the ‘UP International Trade Show’ (UPITS) to be organized from 25 to 29 September at India Expo Center and Mart, Greater Noida. At UPITS, special stalls of specific cuisines of Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar and Maharajganj, selected under ODOC, will be set up.

Lakhs of visitors and businessmen from India and abroad will now be able to taste the traditional food and sweets of Purvanchal in the UP International Trade Show. According to Gaurav Mishra, Joint Commissioner of the Industries Department, separate special clusters and stalls are being prepared for selected dishes of Gorakhpur division in the food court of the trade show. Its main objective is to give global recognition to the local food culture, to provide a big market to the traditional artisans and to give impetus to ‘food tourism’ in the state. Litti Chokha and Garlic Chole Samosas from Gorakhpur, Ramkatori from Maharajganj, Lal Peda, Chhena Khurma and Banana Chips from Kushinagar and Litti Chokha and Malpua from Deoria have been selected for UPITS. A total of six businessmen have been selected to set up stalls of these dishes.

Talking about the specialty of the selected dishes, Litti Chokha is a special favorite of the people here. The special identity of Purvanchal is the fried litti of Sattu, Ajwain, Mangreil and spices soaked in pure mustard oil and Chupdi Litti in desi ghee and the roasted chokha of brinjal, tomato and potato. It will be served in traditional style at international trade shows. Garlic Chickpea Samosa, another dish of Gorakhpur, is continuously gaining fame due to the abundant amount of whole garlic in chickpea. Its distinctive taste will become the center of attraction for guests from India and abroad. Similarly, Khurma made from Peda and Chhena dishes of Kushinagar district and the sweetness of Ramkatori from Mithora market of Maharajganj district are also ready to leave a mark in the trade show.

Gangadhar Dubey of Gorakhpur, who was selected to set up a stall of Litti Chokha in UP ITS, says that this initiative of the government will not only give new prestige to the taste but also the food culture of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The platform of UPITS will prove that the taste of Purvanchal is not limited only to home kitchens or dhabas, but it has the power to win the hearts of food lovers all over the world.
