UPCA selectors undergo the 'fire test' of the director!

Kanpur, 22 May (HS). Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association will probably be the first such association in the country where their selectors are forced to go through a litmus test. Former secretaries of the association, directors and private secretaries of former secretaries take the test of the selectors who sweat for hours from morning to evening in the field for them to endure the gusts of sun and wind for about 4 to 5 days.

The top level officials of the association probably have little to no confidence in the judgment of those selectors and that is why they take turns in examining the list of their selected players and put their final stamp on the team. This was not seen in the previous decades in the history of the Sangh, but within the last 7 to 8 years, the changes in the team selected by the selectors are definitely pointing in this direction.

UPCA sources say that earlier the outgoing secretary used to only finalize the team selected by the selectors, but after being with him, his two close ones have now started putting pressure on the selectors to get their people included in the team. The extent has now reached such a level that the team of 15 players is responsible for selecting the selectors on the field, while the playing XI is selected with the consent of both. In which the selectors have no contribution.

Sources also reveal that selectors have had a few arguments with a director level officer and the personal secretary of another former secretary over the inclusion of several players in the team. Which was settled by mediation by other officials. On the other hand, it has also been observed that their influence and pressure is still there among the members and officials of the entire association of the state as well as among the employees. For the past several years, the former secretary has been putting his stamp on all the decisions of the association.

It is noteworthy that another former secretary Rajeev Shukla had a hand in establishing the dominance of the Assistant Professor, who held the post of Secretary in the year 2019, in the association. While holding the post of Secretary, his decisions were accepted by everyone. As soon as he went into his cooling period, Firozabad's Pradeep Gupta got the command, yet he was not given the right to take decisions. After this, even when Joint Secretary Mohammad Fahim got the charge, differences emerged between them regarding decisions. Even in the match played against New Zealand at Green Park in November 2021, the decisions were being taken by the assistant professor and brother sitting in Meerut.

UPCA sources say that at the end of last year 2022, Arvind Srivastava was appointed as the new secretary. Even after this, all the decisions were being taken in Meerut and Saharanpur. Then a complaint was made to the board and the court and an attempt was made to solve the problem. But could not achieve success. Sources also say that being in charge of Lucknow, the decision to organize World Cup matches including IPL was also taken by both of them. According to a UPCA member, many players were included as selectors in the association. He has also been doing his work well. But they should not be litigated. Doing so raises question marks on their skillful judgment. The Sangh should avoid this. Regarding this, the former selector of the association said that when the team is formed to select the team, then there should not be a litmus test.
