Once again there is going to be a big change in the weather of Uttar Pradesh. While at present the weather remains dry and clear with sunshine in most parts of the state, the cyclonic storm rapidly taking shape in the Bay of Bengal has raised lines of concern on the foreheads of meteorologists. According to the latest forecast of the Regional Meteorological Center, Lucknow, the weather will generally remain calm and clear in most areas of the state for the next three days, but from October 28, the mood of the state is going to change completely. The impact of the cyclonic storm will be directly visible in the eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh, where torrential unseasonal rains accompanied by high speed winds, lightning and thunder may begin. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for many districts of Purvanchal including Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Mirzapur and Chandauli. Due to the sudden return of rain on the cusp of the festive season, while the temperature will drop and coolness will increase, clouds of crisis are also looming over the standing crops of the farmers.
According to meteorologists, a powerful cyclonic system is developing over the Bay of Bengal which is continuously moving at a rapid pace. Analysis of weather models shows that on October 26, this cyclonic storm will move rapidly towards the coastal areas of Northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. As soon as this cyclone hits the coast, its landfall effect will bring huge amount of moisture into the atmosphere of Uttar Pradesh through Central India. This collision of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will have a direct impact on the plains of Uttar Pradesh. However, till October 27, the weather will remain largely clear and sunny across the state, due to which people will feel mild heat during the day. On October 24, there may be sporadic showers due to local clouds in isolated areas of Western UP, but the real seasonal activity will start from the morning of October 28 with dense clouds covering the sky of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
It has been clarified in the bulletin of the Meteorological Department that the period of strong winds will start in the districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh from October 28. With the entry of the outer clouds of the cyclone, gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are expected. During this period, due to sudden instability in the atmosphere, incidents of loud thunder and lightning may occur. The weather center has issued a yellow alert for this day especially for Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Ghazipur, Ballia and their surrounding border areas. People living in these areas have been advised to be cautious, especially to avoid standing in open fields and under trees because the risk of strong storm and lightning will remain highest in these districts of Purvanchal.
This seasonal change, which will begin on October 28, will reach its peak on October 29. Meteorologists say that on October 29, torrential rains along with thunderstorms may be recorded in many areas of Eastern UP. There is a strong possibility of heavy rains with stormy winds in Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia. Apart from this, the scope of cyclonic moisture will extend to central and Terai districts. In Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya and Ambedkar Nagar and surrounding rural areas, there will be strong winds amid movement of clouds throughout the day and there are chances of heavy rain along with lightning. This sudden heavy rain can cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The matter of relief regarding the weather of the state capital Lucknow and the surrounding intermediate districts is that there is no direct threat of any destructive cyclonic storm or extremely heavy rain. The Meteorological Department estimates that the sky may remain partly cloudy in Lucknow and due to cold winds, there will be a significant drop in the day’s mercury. Shivering will increase in the atmosphere during morning and night, due to which the formal arrival of pink cold can be considered. On the other hand, agricultural experts have advised farmers to take special precautions in view of this warning of unseasonal rain. Instructions have been given to complete the work of harvesting, threshing the ripe paddy crop and transporting the grains lying open in the fields to safe places or warehouses by October 27, so that the crops can be saved from getting ruined due to possible strong winds and torrential rains on October 28 and 29.
