UP Weather Alert: Heavy rain and thunderstorms in 31 districts on August 16, Meteorological Department issued orange-yellow alert


Monsoon has once again made a strong comeback in Uttar Pradesh, which has brought relief to the people suffering from the humid heat, but at the same time the weather has also become harsh. According to the Zonal Meteorological Centre, on August 16, 2026, there will be a period of heavy rain in the western and eastern parts of the state. In view of the warning of bad weather and heavy rain, the administration has also become fully prepared. During this period, there is a possibility of strong storm with speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour and lightning (thunderstorm) in many areas, regarding which an appeal has been made to exercise special caution.

Orange alert declared in 12 districts and yellow alert in 19 districts

According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, on August 16, a total of 31 districts of Uttar Pradesh will see the impact of heavy to extremely heavy rains. In view of security, orange alert has been issued in 12 districts of the state, which include Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Barabanki, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly and Pilibhit. There is a strong possibility of heavy rains as well as strong winds in all these districts. Apart from this, yellow alert has been declared in 19 other districts of the state, where moderate to heavy showers are expected.

Apart from the Orange Alert districts, weather patterns will also change in many other major cities and districts of Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain is also expected in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Shamli, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Firozabad, Ayodhya, Basti, Bulandshahr, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj and Deoria. Talking about the capital Lucknow, the sky will be cloudy here, the maximum temperature of the day is likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 27 degrees Celsius, and there may be light to moderate rain in some parts of the city.

Strict advisory from Meteorological Department to avoid storm and lightning

In view of the serious warning of bad weather and lightning, the Meteorological Department has issued a special advisory for the general public and farmers. People have been advised not to leave their homes without any urgent work and to take special care while traveling on waterlogged and slippery roads. Farmers have been appealed not to go to the fields during thunderstorms. When under the open sky, take shelter in a solid, safe building and never stand under a big tree or electric pole.
