Today a new history is being created by further strengthening the infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh. The most awaited Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, connecting the capital Lucknow with the industrial capital of the state Kanpur, is going to be inaugurated today on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Defense Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will jointly inaugurate this state-of-the-art expressway. For this high-profile event, a grand stage and three helipads have been prepared at Jhau Kheda, located at Padri, kilometer 51 of the expressway in Unnao district. After the inauguration, this expressway will be completely opened for the general public from 08:00 am on July 14.

Country’s first barrier-free and smart expressway (NE-6)

Like mutual funds, this infrastructure will also prove to be a ‘growth engine’ saving huge time and fuel. Notified as National Expressway-6 (NE-6), this 63 km long expressway is India’s first completely barrier-free expressway.

  • Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) Technology: In this corridor, vehicles will not need to stop at traditional toll plazas. Modern MLFF tolling system and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology has been used in it, due to which vehicles will be able to pass straight without stopping and toll will be deducted automatically.

  • Advanced Traffic Management: Two high-tech control rooms have been set up at kilometer 27 and 35 to keep a close watch on the entire route 24 hours a day. Apart from this, more than 63 PTZ cameras, 16 Video Incident Detection System (VIDS) and automatic speed radar have been installed. If someone drives faster than the prescribed speed, his online challan will be immediately deducted and sent to his mobile.

The journey will be completed in just 35 minutes at a speed of 120

Till now, it used to take a long time of two to two and a half hours for people to use the old national highway between Lucknow and Kanpur due to heavy traffic jam.

  • 60% time saving: With the opening of this new 6 lane (which can be expanded to 8 lanes in future) expressway, the distance between the two cities will be reduced to just 35 to 45 minutes. The speed for vehicles on this expressway has been fixed at 120 km per hour.

  • Cost and Construction: The foundation stone of this project, built at a huge cost of about ₹ 4,700 crore, was laid on January 5, 2022. It has been completed by NHAI in a record 1648 days. This includes about 45 km of greenfield rural area and a huge 18 km long elevated corridor near Amausi Airport.

This magnificent highway will also be connected to the upcoming Ganga Expressway being built in Unnao through a big interchange, which will make the journey to Delhi-NCR, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal very easy. Along with this, the foundation stone of a new 4-lane flyover worth ₹ 108 crore to be built at the Engineering College intersection of Lucknow will also be laid today.
