Within Uttar Pradesh, there is a difference of 50 paise to 1 rupee in the rates of petrol and diesel from one city to another. The main reason for this is the distance of transportation of fuel from the refinery and oil depot to the petrol pump in different parts of the state i.e. the transportation charge. The greater the distance from the oil depot to the city, the higher the price of oil due to the addition of transportation cost. Apart from this, dealer commission and octroi taxes at the local municipal corporation and panchayat level also affect the final retail price.
