Amidst the ongoing fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market, National Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have released the latest prices of petrol and diesel for all the districts of Uttar Pradesh today. According to the rates revised by the oil companies at 6 am, oil prices remained stable in most of the major cities of the state today, while slight fluctuations were recorded in some districts of the state due to the difference in local VAT and transportation cost. If you are also going to the petrol pump to fill the tank of your vehicle today, then definitely clean your pocket accounts before leaving home.
Today in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, petrol is being sold at the rate of Rs 101.86 per liter and diesel at Rs 95.36 per liter. At the same time, prices have remained almost stable in the industrial city Kanpur, where the price of diesel in the urban area has been recorded at around Rs 95.47 per liter. If we talk about Noida and Greater Noida adjacent to the National Capital Region (NCR), there is a slight difference in comparison to Lucknow due to the influence of state taxes and nearby refinery depot.
There is a stable trend in fuel rates even in religious and cultural centers Varanasi, Prayagraj and Agra. In Agra, the price of diesel has been recorded around Rs 95.02 per liter, while in major districts of Purvanchal like Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Ayodhya, there is a local difference of a few paise per liter due to the addition of transportation cost.
This question often arises in the minds of common consumers as to why the prices of petrol and diesel differ in different districts within the same state. The main reason for this is the distance from the refinery or main oil depot to the petrol pump within the state and the transportation charges imposed on it. The greater the distance from the oil depot to the city, the price increases slightly due to the addition of transportation cost.
Apart from this, the final retail selling price of fuel is decided by combining the price of crude oil in the international market, the excise duty imposed by the central government, the value added tax (VAT) charged by the state government and the commission of petrol pump dealers. This is the reason that despite the prices remaining stable at the national level, there remains a slight difference in the rates between the states and their districts.
