The entire state’s eyes are on the state cabinet meeting to be held today at the official residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. This meeting is being considered very important for the purpose of political strategies for the upcoming assembly elections 2027 and accelerating the pace of administrative and social development in the state. In this cabinet meeting to be led by the Chief Minister, there is every possibility of getting the final approval on more than 18 important proposals related to security system, infrastructure, school education, rural economy and employee welfare. While on one hand the main focus of the government is on making the strategic security of Ramnagari Ayodhya impenetrable, on the other hand, preparations are being made to make major policy changes to improve the future of the Provincial Guard (PRD) soldiers serving at the ground level, Kotedars distributing ration and millions of children studying in the primary schools of the Basic Education Council. According to administrative sources, the official agenda of the meeting has been prepared and these schemes will be formally given the green signal after detailed discussions with senior officials of various departments including the Chief Secretary.
The biggest and sensitive agenda of this cabinet meeting is related to the security arrangements of Ramnagari Ayodhya. After the construction of the grand Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple and the consecration of Ram Lalla, the movement of crores of devotees and VIPs from India and abroad has increased manifold in Ayodhya. In view of this increased importance at the global level, the Yogi government is going to make Ayodhya not only a major religious and cultural center but also the strongest anti-terrorism security center of North India. A proposal is being placed before the Cabinet to formally transfer about 65 acres of barren land of Gram Sabha in Lalkhan village located in Milkipur tehsil area of Ayodhya district to the Union Home Ministry. A fully equipped regional hub of the National Security Guard (NSG) will be established on this land. The creation of this hub will enable rapid deployment of ‘Black Cat’ commandos to deal with any sudden terrorist threat, hostage crisis or high-risk operation in North India. Apart from this, this center will also serve as a major base for rigorous tactical training of NSG commandos, thereby strengthening the security of the entire Central and Eastern Uttar Pradesh manifold.
The state government has decided to take a major policy step to change the face of primary and upper primary education. In recent times, amid questions raised through social media and various other mediums regarding the infrastructure and dilapidated buildings of council primary schools, the Basic Education Department has prepared a blueprint to take modern technology to rural schools. A proposal to establish ‘smart classes’ in primary and upper primary schools run by the Basic Education Council has been included in the agenda of the Cabinet. Under this ambitious scheme, each selected school will be equipped with modern digital boards, audio-visual displays, high-speed internet connectivity and digital teaching materials. For this, the government can approve the necessary budget allocation per school. Its direct objective is to provide quality education through digital platforms and interactive technology on the lines of private convent schools to the children from poor and rural backgrounds studying in government schools, so that they can stand confidently in the national level competition.
Today can bring great news for the volunteers of the Provincial Guard Dal (PRD), who diligently perform their duties day and night with the police administration in maintaining law and order, traffic management, fairs, festivals and government events in the state. Yogi government is going to make a historic increase in the honorarium of PRD soldiers for the fourth consecutive time. According to the proposal being placed in the cabinet, the daily duty allowance currently available at Rs 500 per day will be increased to Rs 600 per day. That means there will be a direct increase of up to Rs 3,000 in the monthly income of every soldier. Earlier, the honorarium was increased from Rs 250 to Rs 375 in 2019, Rs 395 in 2022 and Rs 500 in April 2025. Along with increasing the honorarium, the plan to provide the benefit of cashless medical insurance facility to provide social security cover to about 40 thousand PRD soldiers and their families of the state is also going to be approved. With this, in case of any accident or illness while on duty, soldiers will be able to get free and better treatment in government and empaneled private hospitals without any financial crisis.
The Yogi cabinet is also going to open its doors for the ration vendors who provide free food grains to crores of beneficiaries standing at the last place in the state under the Public Distribution System (PDS). A proposal has been prepared by the Food and Logistics Department to increase the margin money of shopkeepers (kotedars) of fair price shops. For a long time, the Kotedar organizations were demanding an increase in their dividend, considering which the government is going to increase the commission on distribution of food grains to the Kotedars by additional Rs 25 per quintal. This decision will directly benefit more than 78 thousand ration dealers of Uttar Pradesh. According to officials’ estimates, the increase in commission will result in an average additional increase of Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 in the monthly income of each Kotdar. This will not only improve the financial condition of ration dealers, but will also help in operating the transparent e-PoS system of ration distribution more smoothly.
Many important industrial and structural policies are also expected to be approved in today’s cabinet meeting to achieve the goal of making Uttar Pradesh a trillion dollar economy. To make the indigenous toy industry in the state globally competitive and to end dependence on China, ‘Uttar Pradesh Toy Manufacturing Promotion Policy 2026’ can be given the green signal. Under this policy, toy manufacturing units in industrial corridors like Noida, Greater Noida and Gorakhpur will be given subsidies, easy land allotment and relaxation in electricity tariffs. Additionally, to speed up the connectivity of Bundelkhand region, the expansion and revised construction model of ‘Chitrakoot Link Expressway’ will be placed on the Cabinet Table. This link expressway will directly connect the Bundelkhand Expressway to the holy pilgrimage sites of Chitrakoot and the upcoming Defense Corridor nodes, which will give a new impetus to religious tourism and establishment of heavy industries in the region. The proposal to implement ‘New State Policy-2026’ for fitness and technical check of vehicles to strengthen road safety is also an important part of the agenda.
Many important decisions will also be taken in the cabinet to strengthen the transport department in order to expand civic facilities. There is a proposal to transfer government land free of cost to the Transport Corporation for the construction of new state-of-the-art bus stands in Shohratgarh-Barhni in Siddharthnagar district bordering Nepal and Swaijpur town in Hardoi district of Central Uttar Pradesh. This will make the interstate and district level public transport network very accessible in Terai and rural areas. At the same time, with the aim of attracting private investment in the field of higher education, an agreement can be reached to issue a formal Letter of Intent (LOI) to the sponsoring institution for the establishment of ‘Sai Global University’ in Aligarh. Along with this, to promote the real estate and lease market, the state government is preparing to give a big relaxation in the stamp duty applicable on registration of long term tenancy leases of more than 10 years. After the passage of other policy amendments related to finance, fisheries and urban development, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath can formally announce all these historic decisions this afternoon.
