UP Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Bumper recruitment for 1936 posts of Assistant Professor in UP, apply till October 7; Know the eligibility and selection process


There is great news for the youth who are dreaming of becoming assistant professors in non-government aided colleges of Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj has released the detailed advertisement for direct recruitment to 1,936 posts of Assistant Professor under advertisement number 04/2026. Under this, 1,564 posts will be filled in co-education colleges and 372 posts in women’s colleges. The Commission has opened the window for online application from 8th September 2026. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their online form by visiting the official portal of the Commission, upessc.up.gov.in.

As per the official calendar released by the Commission, the main schedule of the recruitment process is set out as follows:

  • Starting date of online application: 8 September 2026

  • Last date for online application and fee submission: 7 October 2026

  • Correction Window: Till 11 October 2026

  • Expected date of written examination: 19 and 20 November 2026

The Commission has clarified that it will be mandatory for all candidates to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) process before filling the form.

  • Educational qualification: The candidate must have a Master’s Degree in the relevant subject from a recognized university with at least 55% marks. Candidates belonging to reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/Divyang) have been given 5% relaxation (minimum 50% marks) at Post Graduate level.

  • NET/PhD Essential: It is mandatory to qualify the National Eligibility Test (NET), or State Level Eligibility Test (SET/SLET) conducted by UGC or CSIR along with Master’s degree. Candidates having Ph.D. degree in regular mode under the standards of UGC Regulations 2009 or 2016 will be exempted from NET/SLET.

  • Age Limit: The maximum age of the candidate should not be more than 62 years as on 1st July 2026.

  • Salary: Selected candidates will be provided with a handsome pay scale of ₹ 57,700 to ₹ 1,82,400 under Pay Matrix Level-10 of the 7th Pay Commission and state government allowances.

  • Application Fee:


    • Unreserved (UR), OBC and EWS: ₹2,000

    • Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST): ₹1,500

    • Disabled (PwBD) Candidates: ₹1,000

    • Fee can be paid through online mode (Net Banking/Card/UPI).

Selection for the post of Assistant Professor will be based on two main stages – written examination and interview.

  • The written examination will be of total 360 marks, in which 120 objective (MCQ) questions will be asked.

  • Of these, 30 questions will be of General Knowledge and 90 questions will be of subject specific.

  • Candidates who qualify the written examination will be invited for Interview and Document Verification (DV), after which the final merit list will be released.
