Delhi, Mumbai: For the last several days, threats to bomb domestic and international flights have been continuing across the country. In 24 hours, 95 more flights received such threats. Along with this, in the last ten days, more than 250 such flights have received bomb threats and air services have been badly affected across the country. Due to emergency landing of aircraft and isolation and testing after landing, many hours of air passengers are being wasted and the entire civil aviation sector is incurring losses worth crores of rupees. On the other hand, the Central Government has said that making a false bomb call in a flight will be included in a cognizable offence. Apart from this, consideration has also been given to putting those making such fake calls in the no-fly list. On Thursday, 95 more flights of IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet, Alliance Air and AXA Air received bomb threats.
According to officials, 25 flights of Axa Air, 20 each of Air India, IndiGo and Regional flights and five flights each of Spice Jet and Alliance Air are under threat.
Except today, more than 170 flights have received bomb threats in the last few days. Most of these threats are being given through social media platforms. These threats prove to be empty but because of this thousands of air passengers are facing a lot of trouble every day. Apart from this, problems have also increased for security officials and airport authorities.
The central government has also taken the increase in bomb threats on planes seriously. The central government has considered putting those caught making such hollow threats on the no-fly list. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has also said that making a hollow threat of placing a bomb in an aircraft will be considered a cognizable offence.
Bomb threats have been received on AXA Air, Air India, Indigo and Vistara flights going from Mumbai, Delhi and other cities of the country to various places in the country and abroad.
Delhi Police has registered eight cases in connection with bomb threats on flights. According to police sources, most of the threats are from blogging site X. After the police received the information, the accounts from which these threats were made have also been suspended.
On October 19, a meeting was held with CEOs or their representatives of all airlines regarding bomb threats on flights dated by the Civil Aviation Security Bureau.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the government is following all necessary protocols and the situation is completely under its control.
When asked whether these threats were a sign of some larger conspiracy, Naidu said, “I cannot give any answer in a hurry.” We will have to wait and see what comes out of a thorough investigation in this matter. Once we find out who is behind all this, we will realize whether it is some conspiracy or someone is doing this to affect the airline business during the festive season.
He said that it is not in my jurisdiction to give information about where these threats are coming from. Intelligence agencies and other departments are investigating this. However, he said that the government is making adequate efforts to ensure the safety of our air services.
