Mumbai, May 13 (HS). Unseasonal stormy rain has wreaked havoc in Mumbai at around 4 pm on Monday. 35 people have been injured after a huge illegal hoarding collapsed near a petrol pump in Ghatkopar. It is feared that about 80 vehicles and 150 people may be buried under this hoarding. At the same time, the car parking lift of a multi-storey building named Shreeji Complex in Wadala area collapsed. Information is being received that dozens of vehicles are buried in this incident.
Overhead wire pole was uprooted between Thane-Mulund station, due to which the service of Central Railway has been partially affected. The fire brigade team has reached the spot and is doing relief and rescue work. The repair team of Central Railway has reached the spot and is repairing the overhead wire pole. 35 people are reported injured after a hoarding fell on the Police Ground Petrol Pump on Eastern Express Highway, Pantnagar, Ghatkopar East.
As soon as the news of hoarding falling in Ghatkopar was received, BJP State Vice President Kirit Somaiya reached the spot. He said that not one but four big hoardings were installed here illegally. He had demanded BMC to remove these hoardings but BMC did not take any action. Today 80 vehicles are stuck under the debris of this hoarding. Also, 150 to 200 people are feared to be trapped. In this incident, so far 35 people have been rescued from the debris, who are being treated in Rajawadi Hospital. Kirit Somaiya has demanded immediate relief and rescue operations from BMC.
BMC PRO said that BMC will file a complaint against Railways and advertising company Ego Media in the case of at least 35 people getting injured in the hoarding collapse incident in Ghatkopar. A complaint will be filed to lodge an FIR under the Disaster Management Act.
The entire structure of the parking lift of Shreeji Complex located on Barkat Ali Road in Wadala collapsed in the stormy wind. Dozens of vehicles are buried under the debris. Here also the fire brigade team has reached and is doing relief and rescue work. No casualties have been reported yet in this incident. Similarly, in Meghwadi area of Jogeshwari, a coconut tree suddenly fell due to stormy rain. Two vehicles were buried in this incident but no one was injured.
Similarly, the metal shed installed on the roof of a building located in Indira Nagar in Kanjurmarg fell in the stormy wind. There has been no news of any casualty in this incident either. The fire brigade team is doing relief and rescue work on the spot. The stormy rains have affected the service of Central Railway. Similarly, due to reduced visibility at Mumbai Airport, many airlines have been suspended, due to which there is a rush of passengers at the airport.
