Dehradun, 09 December (HS). The special efforts made by UJVN Limited to increase power generation in winter are making a significant contribution in meeting the power needs of the state. Generally, the production from the Corporation’s projects reduces during winter, because these projects depend on the water from the rivers originating from the glaciers located in the high Himalayan regions and due to snowfall, the water flow of these rivers reduces.
To deal with this problem, UJVN Limited has started power generation from Ramganga Hydroelectric Project. Managing Director Dr. Sandeep Singhal said that under this project, power generation has been started with a capacity of 198 MW, the benefit of which is being used to meet the electricity needs of the state. After continuous talks with the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, water was released into the canals from December 2, due to which the project started generating electricity.
Dr. Singhal said that since December 5, the project is continuously producing 2.5 to 3.0 million units of electricity. As a result of this increase, the daily production of the corporation reached 10.38 million units by December 8. Whereas at the end of November it was seven million units. Apart from this, the corporation’s projects are producing electricity with a capacity of 850 to 900 MW at the time of peak demand.
Expressing his gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, he said that the increased production will not only help in meeting the power requirements of the state in winter, but will also help in saving the revenue of the state.
