Jagdalpur, 28 November (Hindustan Reporter). Rekhchand Jain, former member of the Executive Council of Bastar University and former MLA, said in a statement issued to the media on Thursday that Shaheed Mahendra Karma Bastar University should not burden students and parents by doubling the fees. This economic exploitation of the students of Bastar under the guise of education policy will not be tolerated. Due to this, thousands of students of tribal dominated Bastar region will be deprived of higher education. Till now, only 125 students have filled the form, which is a proof that the students have not liked this decision of the university. Former member of the Executive Council, Jain has also expressed surprise that the approval of this decision was not taken from the Executive Council.

Rekhchand Jain has demanded that the university administration should tell when this topic was brought up in the Academic Council and Executive Council. The lack of consideration of what impact this irrational and short-sighted decision of expanding the university in seven districts of Bastar division will have on the students and their parents proves how dominant the bureaucracy is. The former MLA has said that in the interest of students, the decision to increase fees should be immediately withdrawn. He has asked the university administration to give up its mentality of intimidating student leaders through police, otherwise be prepared to face the consequences. Jain has said that despite the universal condemnation of Bastar University’s decision of playing with the future life of the students, sophistry is being made to support the fee hike, which is condemnable and unacceptable. Due to non-finalisation of names of five MLAs, the quorum of the Executive Council is not being met, hence its meeting is not being called, which is unfortunate and shameful. In these circumstances, the issue of fee increase was not to be taken up but this is a sign of bureaucratism.
