American space agency NASA will pay tribute to a Hindu religious leader in a unique way. NASA will send pictures and messages of the fifth Guru Pramukhswami Maharaj of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) to the Moon. For this, NASA has engraved the images of Pramukhswami Pramukh Maharaj and his works on the surface of the private spacecraft Odysseus through relativistic radiation. Under NASA's IM-1 mission, the spacecraft will make a soft landing on the lunar surface two days later on February 22.

In an update, NASA's Intuitive Mission has confirmed the sending of President Swami Maharaj's message to the Moon. Pramukhswami Maharaj gave the message of selfless service and human welfare in his life. Impressed by this, the American space agency has decided to pay tribute to him. Intuitive Mission said that when different countries and companies collaborate on space projects, such common sense messages could be allowed to be incorporated into space exploration. This promotes unity, cooperation and a sense of collective responsibility in achieving the goal.
Who was Pramukhswami Maharaj?
Pramuchhaswami Maharaj was a spiritual leader. He was the fifth Guru of BAPS. Pramukh Swami Maharaj was born on 7 December 1921 in Chhapaiya village of Gujarat state. Pramukhswami Maharaj played an important role in the development and progress of BAPS in India and internationally. He propagated the principles of Hinduism and the spiritual teachings of the Swaminarayan sect. Under his leadership BAPS Activities related to education, health services, social services and humanitarian services have lost momentum. Pramukh Swami Maharaj is known for his efforts to promote religious harmony, community service and philanthropy.

Pramukhswami Maharaj's real name was Shantilal Patel. Pramukhswami Maharaj considered Shastriji Maharaj, the founder of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, as his guru. Pramukh Swami Meraj was initiated by his guru as 'Narayan Swarupdas Swami'. Pramukhswami Maharaj built Swaminarayan temples in many countries including America. He is known for building the Akshardham temple in Gujarat and Delhi. During his lifetime he built more than 1,100 Swaminarayan temples. Pramukh Swami Maharaj died on 13 August 2016 at the age of 94.
When will the Odysseus spacecraft reach the Moon?
The Odysseus spacecraft will attempt a soft landing near the moon's south pole on February 22. It will be the first American mission to do so in the more than 50-year history of American space missions. It is equipped with IM-1 lander. The lander will explore the surface of the Moon's south pole. The lander carries a suite of six payloads as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Service (CLPS) mission. It has sent scientific instruments to measure the plasma atmosphere on the lunar surface and collect data for future Artemis astronauts.
