Kohima, 07 December (HS). Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and Labor and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya arrived in Nagaland this morning on a two-day visit.
On arrival at Dimapur airport, he was welcomed by MLA and Advisor for Skill Development, Employment and Excise and Youth Resources and Sports Moatoshi Longkumar.
Dr. Mandaviya later left for the state capital Kohima in a helicopter. He met Nagaland Governor L.A. Ganesan at Kohima Raj Bhavan in the afternoon.
Later, while addressing the officials of Labor and Employment Department and Youth Resources and Sports Department at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima, Dr. Mandaviya said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has made significant changes in the field of sports.
He said that the earlier government paid very little attention to sports, whereas the present government is trying to develop sports at every level. It is ensuring that its benefits reach every citizen of the country.
The Union Minister also gave examples of various sports development schemes of the Modi government. These include Khelo India Scheme, Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Kirti Project, Fit India Movement and National Sports Repository System (NSRS).
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya expressed his gratitude to the Nagaland Government for inviting him for the Hornbill Festival this year and said that the festival is a true portrayal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.
Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and General Secretary of Nagaland Olympic Association Abu Metha and Advisor on Youth Resources and Sports to the Government of Nagaland S Keoshu Yimkhiung were also present at the event.
After reaching Indira Gandhi Stadium, Mandaviya also planted saplings along with MY Bharat Youth Volunteers inside the stadium premises under the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign.
The Union Minister will attend the Hornbill Festival tomorrow and visit important sites in Kohima including the Commonwealth War Cemetery.
