A major accident took place at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. At least 20 laborers are feared trapped under the debris due to the sudden collapse of the shuttering of the roof under construction during the beautification of the station. Teams of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and SDRF are engaged in relief and rescue operations on the spot. The workers rescued so far have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Time and cause of incident
- The accident happened on Saturday afternoon at around 2:39 pm.
- According to reports, the lintel under construction collapsed due to shuttering failure during beautification work.
- District Magistrate (DM) Shubhrant Kumar Shukla said that this accident happened due to sudden fall of shuttering.
Rescue work continues
- Priorities of rescue work:
- Evacuate the workers trapped under the debris safely as soon as possible.
- Providing immediate medical aid to the injured.
- Rescue operations are underway in full swing by joint teams of the district administration, Railway Protection Force, and SDRF.
- DM Shubhrant Kumar Shukla and other senior officials are monitoring the rescue operations at the incident site.
“Our first priority is to save the workers. All available resources are being used for this,” he said.
