New Delhi, August 21 (HS). Raunak Dahiya opened India's account in the medal tally on Tuesday by winning a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman 110 kg category at the ongoing Under-17 World Wrestling Championship in Amman, Jordan.
Current world number two Raunak defeated Turkey's Emrullah Kapkan 6-1 in the bronze medal match. Earlier, the Indian player lost 0-2 to Hungary's Zoltan Szako in the semi-finals.
Raunak, who trains at the famous Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi, started his Under-17 World Cup campaign with an 8-1 win over Artur Manvelyan and followed it up with a technical superiority win over Daniel Maslako.
The other Indian in the race for the bronze medal is Pardhi Sainath.
Pardhi is in contention for a bronze medal in 51kg through the repechage round, where he will face Munareto Dominic Michael of the United States.
Pardhi lost 1-5 to Tushan Dashdimirov of Azerbaijan in the first round but later reached the final, giving the Indian a chance to win the bronze medal.
