Kanpur, 05 September (HS). Late in the evening, an uncontrolled truck fell from the overbridge of the National Highway onto the railway line in Kanpur. The driver died in the accident and due to the breakdown of the railway's OHT line, the up and down rail line traffic on the Kanpur-Jhansi route came to a halt. It was fortunate that no train was coming at that time, otherwise a major accident would have occurred. The police and railway administration reached the spot on receiving the information and are trying to restore railway traffic by carrying out rescue operations.
In Panki police station area, an uncontrolled truck broke the wall of National Highway Gujaini Overbridge and fell on the railway line about 30 feet below. While falling from the overbridge, the truck overturned three times and the body of the driver was taken out of the damaged truck after a lot of effort. The body of the driver was stuck in the seat and while falling down, the truck also broke the railway OHT line, due to which the railway traffic of Kanpur-Jhansi route came to a halt. However, it was fortunate that no train was coming at that time, due to which a major accident was averted. After the accident, the force of about 10 police stations including Panki has reached and the rescue operation is going on. On receiving the information, railway officials also reached the spot and are engaged in the exercise of restoring the railway traffic.
At present, the Kanpur-Jhansi railway line has come to a complete standstill. The accident has happened at the same place where the Sabarmati Express had derailed a few days ago. Railway administration and police teams are working to remove the truck from the railway line and restore the Kanpur-Jhansi railway track. After the accident, heavy force has been deployed on and below the Gujaini overbridge.
ADCP West Vijayendra Dwivedi said that the truck fell on the railway line from a height of about 30 to 40 feet. The body of the driver has been taken out and GRP and RPF are present along with the police. While falling from the overbridge, the truck broke the OHT of the railway line, due to which the railway track has been disrupted, which the railway officials are working to repair.
Train operations started on down track
While issuing a bulletin in the case of track obstruction due to falling of truck, the railway informed that on Thursday at around 19.11 pm, a truck fell down from the overbridge 239 between kilometer number 1338/0 Bhimsen to Govindpuri. Due to this, the traffic of both up and down directions has been affected. RPF, GRP, railway staff reached the spot and started the rescue operation. The work of removing the damaged truck is in progress. The track has been fitted at 20.19 pm for down direction trains and the operation of trains has been started with restricted speed limit.
