A soul-shattering criminal case has come to light from Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru, which has raised serious questions on the metropolitan security and mutual trust between neighbors. A highly educated youth, who had returned from the United Kingdom with a post-graduation degree, not only kidnapped the 13-year-old son of his own former neighbor but also brutally killed him in Yelahanka area of Bengaluru Urban district. The deceased child has been identified as M Prajwal, a Class 8 student, whose father is a well-known real estate businessman in the area. Despite living a modern lifestyle and having received higher education from abroad, accused Bhaskar Reddy committed this horrific crime out of blind lust for money. This brutality of this young man, who recently got a job in a big infrastructure company, has shocked the entire Bengaluru city and the police department.
The preliminary inquiry conducted by the Bengaluru Police and the official investigation revealed that the main reason behind this sensational murder was the deepening economic crisis. The family of accused Bhaskar Reddy had a huge debt of about Rs 3 crore, and there was constant pressure from all sides to repay it. To get relief from this debt overnight, he conspired to kidnap the son of his old neighbor and builder Manohar. Bhaskar knew that Manohar was a prosperous real estate businessman and would easily pay a huge ransom of Rs 1 crore for the safe return of his only son. To fulfill this nefarious plan, he also lured Edukondalu, a private school bus cleaner, with him by luring him with a lot of money. Together, both of them had prepared a complete blueprint to kidnap innocent Prajwal and collect ransom.
Deputy Commissioner of Police of North-East Division G. Of. According to Mithun Kumar, Prajwal’s family and Bhaskar’s family had lived as neighbors in the same street in Yelahanka for a long time, due to which the child had no doubt or fear towards the accused. Prajwal was very fond of expensive and luxury cars and he often used to talk about cars. On Wednesday evening, Bhaskar took advantage of this innocent interest of the child. When Prajwal was strolling outside his house, Bhaskar reached there in his SUV and lured the child by giving him Diwali crackers and teaching him to drive the SUV on the way. The innocent child fell in love with the words of his old and familiar neighbor and sat in the car without any hesitation, but he had no idea that he had set out on the journey of his death.
After taking the child in the car from Yelahanka, the accused took him to a deserted and isolated place located on the outskirts of the city. There Bhaskar and his associate Edukondalu took the child hostage. The accused recorded a scary video clip of Prajwal to send it to his father Manohar and immediately demand a huge ransom of Rs 1 crore. Immediately after making the video, fear arose within the accused that the child would reveal their identity once they were released. Due to this fear, he first gave a fatal blow to Prajwal’s head with a heavy wooden log, due to which he bled to death and became unconscious. After this, both the accused picked up the unconscious child and took him to another deserted plot. Standing there on a boundary wall, the accused attacked the unconscious child lying below with heavy hollow cement bricks and completely crushed his head, rendering him silent forever.
After committing this heinous act of murder, accomplice Edukondalu fled from the spot, while the main accused Bhaskar Reddy planned to dispose of the body. He wrapped the blood-soaked body of Prajwal in an old and torn mattress lying there and hid it in the trunk of his SUV. His intention was to take the body out of Bengaluru and dump it in the forests of Nellore in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh. To overcome the fear and anxiety of crime, Bhaskar drank alcohol excessively. Being completely drunk, he was driving at high speed. At a deserted turn near Chikkajala, his SUV lost control and hit an electric pole head-first. Despite this, he continued driving the car and went ahead and hit two other cars parked outside a residential apartment.
Hearing the loud sound of the collision, the security guards and local people of the apartment immediately ran outside. When they took Bhaskar out of the car, he was completely drunk and was acting strangely. The local citizens became deeply suspicious of his suspicious activities. When people opened the trunk of the crashed SUV and examined it, they were shocked to see the body of a 13-year-old child wrapped in a torn mattress soaked in blood. Angry people immediately caught the accused and handed him over to Chikkajala police station. The police took possession of the body and sent it for postmortem and registered a case against the accused Bhaskar Reddy under serious sections of kidnapping, murder and destruction of evidence and arrested him. DCP North East said that special police teams have been formed to arrest the absconding accomplice Edukondalu involved in the incident and intensive search operations are being carried out on all the exit routes of the city.
