On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, any celebration in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh begins from the temple of Baba Mahakal. Due to the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, Lord Mahakal was decorated as Shri Ganesh. Like every day, after opening the doors of the temple for Bhasma Aarti in the morning, the priest removed the ornaments of the Lord and performed Panchamrit Puja. After this, Baba Mahakal appeared in the form of Ganesh ji.

Devotees who arrived in large numbers for the Bhasma Aarti took the blessings of Baba Mahakal in the form of Lord Ganesha. During this, ash was offered to Baba Mahakal on behalf of Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after offering ash, God appears from formless to real form. Baba offered silver moon, trident, crown and ornaments to Mahakal, decorated him as Ganesh ji, offered cannabis, sandalwood, dry fruits and ash, wore a silver crown, Mundmaal and Rudraksha garland to Sheshnag. Then Lord Mahakal was offered fruits and sweets.
